How to Throw the Perfect Zoom Party

Celebrating special events, birthdays, and even Christmas over video calling technology such as Zoom has become a lot more normal for everyone than anyone could have predicted even eighteen months ago. It may not be quite the same as seeing people face to face, but this kind of software has meant that many people who would otherwise become lonely and even depressed have been able to keep in touch with friends and loved ones, so it makes sense that these parties are popular, even if you’d rather they weren’t necessary.

If you’re hoping to host a virtual party, there are some things you’ll want to think about to ensure it’s the best event it can be. Read on to find out more.

Decorate

With a face-to-face kind of party, there’s no doubt you’d decorate your home for your guests. It shouldn’t be any different with a Zoom party. You can choose from a variety of backgrounds on most video calling apps and programs, and if you send instructions to your guests on how to do it for themselves, you’ll all have a festive or celebratory background.

Alternatively, if you prefer to do things in a more traditional way, you can decorate the room you’ll be having your virtual party in with banners, streamers, and eco-friendly balloons, for example. Send a box of supplies to each guest, and they can do the same.

Arrange an Activity

Although it’s fun to sit and chat with your loved ones on video calls, it’s great to have an activity arranged when it comes to a special occasion. Depending on the people invited and what their likes and dislikes might be, you could, for example, watch a movie together or binge the newest episodes of your favorite TV show. Alternatively, you could host a quiz or games night. Or you could reach out to a third party who could arrange something like a specialist chocolate tasting event on your behalf.

The event should take place in the middle of the party. You’ll want time at the beginning to get everyone settled and to catch up with friends, and afterward, you’ll want to get the food and drink ready and ensure everyone has fun.

Food and Drink

Speaking of food and drink, this is another important element to any party, and just because you are hosting a virtual one, that doesn’t mean you can forget to feed your guests. Make sure everyone knows the food situation; are you paying for takeout for everyone or sending a hamper of goodies ahead of time? Or do you want everyone to buy their own food but eat it together? If so, is there a theme? The same goes for drinks. Depending on their preference, it’s always fun to send your guests a small bottle of wine, spirits, or a soft drink. In that way, you can have a toast together to begin or end the party in the right way.

You don’t have to go overboard to have a great virtual Zoom party; you just need to be organized and think ahead.
