Reasons to Get Married in Today’s World

There’s a lot to be said for an independent life, and for many people, getting married may feel far off in their thoughts. But while they wait, here are some reasons to consider when thinking about getting married.

Marriage is an important decision that can shape the rest of your life in many ways. Believe it or not, just being mentally prepared for the responsibility of marriage can lead to knock-on effects, like having the confidence to look for more career opportunities and strive for higher salaries, leading to an increased chance of achievement.

The World Has Changed (and so has marriage)

The world has changed since traditional marriage was the only considered option. Husbands and wives having their own roles to play and specific societal expectations in the union is all but a thing of the past.

Women are often no longer content with being housewives and mothers and so they pursue other life ambitions; for example, there are more opportunities in regards to career development. For this reason, and perhaps a handful of others, more and more women are postponing motherhood too.

We no longer live in a world where gender roles are so starkly defined. This, combined with the fact that some people find themselves single at what would have once been considered an age most suitable for marriage, means it’s worth re-evaluating attitudes towards wedlock almost entirely.

Here are a few reasons why you should seriously consider getting married.

Humans Are Better Together

Marriage is a big commitment, but most people will settle down with a significant other at some point in their life, so it’s important to think about what makes the right partner.

Studies show that married men and women are happier in life than those who live alone or aren’t married. They score higher on all measures of mental health too, and they’re less likely to develop heart disease during their lifetime.

What’s more, a strong marriage is proving to be a good investment for society as married couples are reportedly more invested in the wellbeing of their communities and are even more likely to do voluntary work.

Weddings are Modern Affairs

These days a wedding ceremony isn’t the stuffy to-do that it used to be.

Many couples are opting for contemporary ceremonies with a modern church service (or ditching the church altogether), getting modern-style rings (Newman Bands have some great options for men), and even forgoing the rich wedding meal for a more laid-back cookout or barbecue.

Modern wedding celebrations, while expensive, are usually much more fun than they used to be!

The Ideal Marriage is Long-Lasting

People in stable relationships are happier and healthier, and they’re much more likely to find work and achieve financial stability.

This has been proven by researchers time and again. Happy couples are secure couples.

It’s Good For Your Health

Studies show that married people are less likely to develop heart disease, stroke, or chronic illnesses than those who are single or separated.

Couples tend to live longer too, whereas single people die earlier than most.

Marriage is Good for the Children

Studies also show that children who grow up with married parents are more likely to stay out of trouble and not commit crimes because they have a good head start in life.

They’re also more likely to do better at school, versus when their parents are separated or divorced, because they grow up in a home where there is a lot of love and stability and they’re more likely to be well cared for by two people who love them very much.
