Sleeping a lot is bad for your health

Surely you have heard that you have to sleep at least seven hours a day. The truth is that after different research and studies by the best universities, they concluded that sleeping a lot is bad for your health. Sleep is necessary to oxygenate our body, relax it, and give the mind a well-deserved rest. If we sleep for a few hours, we fail to recharge our energy, and consequences begin to occur, such as lack of attention, concentration, and very little force to carry out our activities. Doctors recommend sleeping seven to eight hours a day. However, if you exceed it, you can have repercussions on your body.

What does science say?

An investigation by the European Heart Journal reported that people who spend more than nine hours in bed have a five percent chance of premature death. On the other hand, if they exceed more than 10 increases the probability of up to 41 percent. Also, another study developed by Harvard University found that people who sleep more than 10 hours suffer from higher triglyceride levels, obesity, and diabetes problems.

If you are on vacation or suddenly you are very tired and want to sleep all day, do it! Sometimes, your body asks you for an abundant dose of sleep so you can relax and rest. It is not bad to sleep more than once in a while until you make it a habit. You must create your own balance of sleep and set your own limits.

Tips for sleeping neither more nor less

  • Create a sleep routine, lie down, and wake up at the same time.
  • Practical minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day.
  • Dine at least two hours before going to bed.
  • It is not advisable to sleep with the phone aside.
  • Practice relaxing activities: bathing with hot water, reading a book, playing music, applying aromatherapy, among others.
  • Try not to take naps during the day to be sleepy at night.
